Animate Projects presents an event for Flatpack's Unpacked programme. With four Animate Projects commissioned artists - Suky Best, Mark Simon Hewis, Thomas Hicks and Stephen Irwin - who all make films that explore pre-cinema technologies of making images move. They’ll be showing some films, revealing how they made them, and discussing why they made them that way.

Suky Best and Stephen Irwin draw on simplicity and repeated action of flip-books; Mark Simon Hewis and Thomas Hicks both make zoetropes - in Mark’s case, a ‘life-size’ human one. But although they all may follow fundamental principles, the ways they apply them is complex, magical and mesmerising.

Unpacked is a show-and-tell day. You have a chance to rummage around in the sketch-books and thought-processes of a number of filmmakers and artists doing exciting things with tools old and new. Featuring David O'Reilly, Jim LeFevre, Paper Cinema and Animate Projects.

Day tickets: £15.00, £12.00 for students, a limited number of individual session tickets will also be available on the day for £5.00, £4.00.
