A screening of four films by Ben Rivers, presented as part of the 8th London Short Film Festival, in association with Animate Projects.

I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING (Ben Rivers, 29min)
ORIGIN OF THE SPECIES (Ben Rivers, 16min)
THIS IS MY LAND (Ben Rivers, 14min)
A WORLD RATTLED OF HABIT (Ben Rivers, 10min)

After the screening Ben Rivers will be in conversation with artist filmmaker Andrew Kötting, who he has collaborated with on a number of film projects, including the short documentary Offshore.

Ben Rivers' practice as a filmmaker treads a line between documentary and fiction. Often following and filming people who have in some way separated themselves from society, the raw film footage provides Rivers with a starting point for creating oblique narratives imagining alternative existences in marginal worlds. Rivers uses near-antique cameras and often hand-develops the 16mm film, which shows all the evidence of the elements it has been exposed to, forming part of the narrative. I Know Where I'm Going
in particular moves further towards a vision of post-apocalyptic Earth and its remaining inhabitants.
