Dark Matters is the next exhibition at Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester exploring the impact of scientific, digital and mechanical invention upon visual culture, Dark Matters brings together the work of ten internationally acclaimed artists from across the globe who engage with ideas of darkness and shadow through a range of technologies.

For Asia Triennial Manchester, the exhibition includes a new commission by Korean video artist Ja-Young Ku and did i? by Hiraki Sawa.

To coincide with the exhibition Dark Matters, Animate Projects in collaboration with Whitworth present a four-week screening of work by contemporary animators who make use of a variety of techniques and technologies to engage with themes of loss, memory, darkness and light.

The four animations which will be screened daily over a period of four weeks running from 23 September until 16 October are:

Dark Matters runs from 23 September 2011 until 15 January 2012.

The Asia Triennial Manchester runs from 1 October until 27 November 2011.
