Biography

Award winning animator and digital media artist. Born and raised in Japan, Motomichi moved to the US at the age of 17 and studied Communication Design and Illustration at Parsons School of Design in New York.

A keen interest in the works of the subconscious and the unknown has driven Motomichi to explore the representation of primal emotions, such as fear, that are associated with primitive parts of our brain. Cryptozoological and mystical creatures are also portrayed in the form of designed characters that are both figurative and abstract representations and that rely on the usage of a red, black and white palette and a rhythmic and precise delivery of animation technique that results in highly vibrant and visceral visual presentations.

His work has been exhibited at numerous museums worldwide including the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the Museu Oscar Niemeyer in Brazil and Winzavod - Moscow Contemporary Art Center. As a VJ he has performed at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, New York’s MOMA, the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Volksbühne in Berlin and La Gaite Lyrique in Paris.
