Artist's statement

Reduction, sunrise to sunset.

3 short stills films, Beijing, Seoul, and Ulaanbaatar.

Each of the cities are photographed over the course of one day. As I walk through and around each city, I will shoot one image every minute between sunrise and sunset. The routes are decided randomly. Each series of photographs are edited into a film, each image lasting only about a fraction of a second before moving onto the next. None of the images taken will be edited out.

The viewer receives a rapid series from which to draw their own conclusions as to the places shown. There is no attempt enforce a conception of the city on to the viewer. Despite the brevity of time they are displayed, the images surprisingly remain in the consciousness of the viewer, adding up to a complete and original impression of a place, free of prior conceptions.

This is part of a body of work that I have been producing for a number of years in different locations: London and East Asian cities including Hong Kong, Beijing, Seoul, Ulaanbaatar, Shanghai, Guangzhou.
