Introduced by Tate Modern film curator Stuart Comer, AnimateTV features six extraordinary new films by artists and experimental filmmakers working with animation. Interviews with the artists offer a unique insight into the ideas, processes and challenges behind each film.
Semiconductor's Magnetic Movie vividly visualises invisible magnetic fields; The Life Size Zoetrope shows one person's life shot on a zoetrope made from a fairground ride; in End of the Street Andy Martin collaborates with poet Ian McMillan; Flat Earth is entirely constructed from images and blogs found on the web; comic character Francis subverts traditional animation; and Tongue of the Hidden gives us a glimpse into Middle Eastern culture.
'Some of the pieces play with the medium to the point where it's barely recognisable as animation, but it just makes watching all the more worthwhile.' Alexi Duggins, Time Out London, 28 November-4 December 2007, p.178.
