London-based Sebastian Buerkner is one of the most innovative artists working with animation today.
Buerkner's elaborate visual language makes unusual, sophisticated use of Macromedia Flash, creating parallel or fantasy worlds that often defy logic. For The Showroom and Animate Projects, Buerkner has developed two new works that strip away the narrative element of his practice to date and attempt an analytical investigation into the presentation of emotional states using animation.
On Saturday 21 June Buerkner will show a selection of films that have influenced his approach to animation and talk about his practice. Admission is free to this event and all are welcome.
Sebastian Buerkner has made projects for Kohlenhof Kunstverein Nurnberg, Whitechapel Project Space, London and LUX at Lounge Gallery, London. He has also participated in group shows and screenings at Site Gallery, Sheffield, Tate Liverpool, Barbican, London and Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna. His film Purple Grey (2006) was broadcast as part of AnimateTV on Channel 4. Buerkner currently lives and works in London.
Emotion Machine, the new work co-commissioned by Animate Projects and The Showroom, will be on display at The Showroom until 22 June.
