An animated evening with films, discussion...some drawing, and some refreshments.

We’ll be showing some drawn animated films from the AnimateTV collection by animation artists. Gary Thomas, Co-director of Animate Projects, will be discussing the process and practices of making drawings move with artists Mark Simon Hewis, Thomas Hicks, John Parry and Sarah Cox. Everyone will be invited to do some drawing too, and we’ll have a drink as well.

Some of the films contain adult material.

Mark Simon Hewis studied animation at the Royal College of Art. His films have been shown around the world, and he teaches at the Bristol School of Animation at the University of the West of England.

Thomas Hicks studied illustration and animation at Kingston University. He works as a freelance music video and commercials director through Passion Pictures.

John Parry studied at the Royal College of Art. He has worked in commercial animation as a director for Picasso Pictures since 1994. He was Professor of Animation at Savannah College of Art and Design in the USA for several years, and now teaches at UWE.

Sarah Cox studied animation at the Royal College of Art and works as a director of short films and commercials. Her film Heavy Pockets was nominated for a BAFTA. She set up Bristol based production company Arthur Cox in 2002.

The Drawing Exchanges Festival is a multi-site event-based social drawing programme involving a wide variety of participants in the activity of drawing. The festvial takes place from 25 April to 3 May at various venues across Bristol.
