Biography

Arriving in London during the summer of punk and quickly securing the post of Art Editor at the New Musical Express (NME), Andy went on to establish Studio Espresso in the mid 1980s. This coincided with the birth of the Apple Macintosh, which soon became the weapon of choice. Over the next few years Andy moved away from magazine and book design to concentrate on illustration and subsequently digital filmmaking. His early experiments regularly screened at the onedotzero festivals and travelled worldwide, culminating in the release of the Earth Bonding Point DVD compilation in Japan in 2002.

Poet and broadcaster Ian McMillan’s work appeared in the NME in the 1980s and through this the pair struck up a working relationship. An early collaborative short film Messages from a Russian Heatwave (2002) continues to tour internationally and has screened on the Sundance TV channel. The book, “Ideas Have Legs – Ian McMillan vs Andy Martin” was published by Fuel in 2006.
