Biography
Katy Shepherd was born in Bournemouth in 1961. She studied fine art/painting at Bournemouth and Sheffield colleges and did her postgraduate in painting at the Royal College of Art, London in 1991.
In 1996 following the death of her mother, Katy began experimenting with animating old photos via digital manipulation. Exploring ideas of resurrection and the nature of memories.
Her first commissioned work for the web was a series of animated snapshots from the family album; and was funded by London Arts board and the City of Westminster Arts Council in 1998.
Katy has made a number of films as commissions in the UK and abroad and has work in public art collections both here and in Sweden.
In October 2006 Katy launched her most recent project for the web, Vitreous Humour, an exploration of what it means to have an artist’s 'vision'; funded by Arts Council England.
Katy's short films and animations have been shown at many galleries including the ICA London, Tate Britain, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Whitechapel, the Photographers Gallery and the National Gallery, London. They have also been screened on Channel 4 and ITV and at the Other Cinema and the Curzon Cinema, London.
