Spherical Harmonics is an experimental CGI animation produced for display on The Wall at The Photographers' Gallery, an 8 screen digital video display.

Investigating ideas of memory, photorealism, commercial imagery, fetish and technology, the film features an off-the-shelf female model in an entirely digital set, which acts as a showroom for a sequence of surreal and mysterious events.

'Spherical Harmonics is about the strange power of the CGI image. It is a hermetically sealed fantasy, full of digitally created memories, counterfeit physics and controlled accidents. A place where reality fails because it's too perfect, and where spectacular CGI setpieces are replaced with more introverted and complex fantasies - fantasies of the digital-artist-as-god, lost in uncanny valley.'

The film was constructed in 3D animation using Autodesk Maya and composited in Adobe After Effects.

Born in Istanbul in 1986, Mustafa Bal graduated with a Sound Engineering and Production diploma with distinction. Based in London, he is now working as a freelance sound engineer specialised in Sound Design and Location Sound Recording. He is often using his field and studio recordings for creative sound design by manipulating and creating interesting sounds, which gives them their uniqueness
