In a YouTube review of his favourite video game, a man tells a story of heartbreak. Guiding us through the space simulator 'Nomad X', the narrator offers hints and tips on gameplay, guides us from an alien planet, along trade routes, through wormholes and asteroid belts to an abandoned space station and ultimately a laser dogfight However, as he divulges the secrets of the gameplay he drifts on to secrets about another unforgotten love, Carina. He describes a love that made him see stars and explains why 10 years later he was punched in the throat.
The film is a parody of the ‘Let’s Play’ video walkthroughs you find on YouTube, in which a narrator records a running commentary and screen capture of his/herself playing a video game, thus rendering an interactive experience totally passive.
The film uses 3D CGI (computer generated imagery) to emulate the simple geometry and low resolution textures of a 90s video game as well as representing the narrators interior world as an 8 bit polygonal psychological landscape.
