Animate Projects and Portland Green Cultural Projects present a selection of films that explore the correlation between animation and dance. Movement and motion, gesture and action, these are films that are concerned with the composition of the image, the framing of space and choreographic intent.

Dance and animation's relationship to each other, as artforms, has evolved over the 20th and 21st Century, with notable examples including the Lumière brothers' Skeleton of Joy (1897), Len Lye’s Rainbow Dance (1936) and OpenEndedGroup’s After Ghostcatching (2010). Blurring the distinct forms of dance and animation provides today's artists with the opportunity to remain beating the pulse of moving image.

A panel discussion supported by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation will coincide with the exhibition in February 2012.
