14-18 August

Rights to a Future is a contemporary film programme, co-curated by ISIS Arts (Newcastle, UK) Göteborg Culture Festival (Sweden) and A Gallery (Göteborg, Sweden). The theme, Rights to a Future was conceived jointly by the 3 partners, asking artists to consider our future and respond with new visions of what it could be. At a time of austerity, and global economic downturn, societies and their media consider the impact on communities and individuals alike, and the basic human rights that need to be defended.

Featuring Animate films Bradley Manning Had Secrets by Adam Butcher and Doubled Up by Samantha Moore, Rights to a Future showcases works by filmmakers from the UK and the Nordic countries, and includes both emerging and established artists working in the realm of film, video, moving image, digital media and new media.

The programme will be revealed at Göteborg Culture Festival in The Big M, a unique and eye-catching venue with state of the art media facilities for the exhibition of film and media works. The Big M is the only inflatable, mobile touring venue of its kind. The Big M has toured Europe and the UK since 2000, often attracting in excess of 2000 people per day. The Big M features a specially designed touch screen interface allowing viewers to interact with the screening programme and features three projectors showing work on three screens.

The ‘Rights to a Future’ screening programme and the Swedish tour is funded by Göteborg Culture Festival and supported by A Gallery. The development period for this project was supported by UK Trade & Investment.
